The story behind the painting

Pippa lives in a small cottage on Willow Lane, not far from the orchards. Cheerful, practical and endlessly dependable, she is one of those Budderlee residents who seems to notice what needs doing before anyone has thought to ask. Her specialty is her ribbon-worthy candied apples. When Harvest Festival season arrives, Pippa works alongside her close friends Olive and Maisie, turning the fruits of the orchard into treats for the whole village. Pippa loves the old traditions of Budderlee and remembers the little details from festivals past—the favorite treats, the winning ribbons and the familiar faces that return year after year. Away from the bustle of festival preparations, Pippa enjoys a much quieter pastime. She is learning the traditional craft of braided cotton rag-rug making from Penelope, using saved pieces of worn aprons, table linens and cotton fabric. Her rugs may not always come out perfectly straight, but Pippa is rather proud of them anyway. She also presses particularly beautiful autumn leaves between the pages of an old book, keeping small reminders of her favorite season long after the trees are bare. Each frame is cut for the special characteristics of each unique painting. Approximate finished size is 6.5” x 6.5”
