The Watcher at the Threshold 10" × 10" Original Painting There is a moment between observing and acting—a place where we can choose to rush forward or simply remain still and watch. The Watcher at the Threshold lives in that moment. The raven stands at the edge, one foot seemingly ready to cross while the other holds her back. She is not fearful. She is attentive. She watches before deciding what comes next. Ravens are often surrounded by symbolism and mystery, but I wanted this painting to also celebrate the bird itself. Look beyond the idea of a “black bird” and there is remarkable beauty. Its feathers hold blues, silvers, violets and deep charcoal. Its expression is intelligent and curious. Even the slight tilt of the head suggests a creature actively considering the world before it. The threshold in this painting can be a physical place, but it can also represent the many thresholds we encounter in our own lives—those moments when something new lies just beyond what we know. There is value in not immediately stepping through. Sometimes we need to stand at the edge for a while. To observe. To listen. To understand what is before us. Waiting does not always mean hesitation; sometimes it is wisdom. And so the raven watches. Not removed from life, but deeply engaged with it—curious about what lies beyond the boundary and careful not to enter before the time is right. The Watcher at the Threshold is a celebration of the raven's natural beauty, but also a quiet reminder: We don't always have to rush through the doorway.
