The story behind the painting

Meet Hattie the Hedgehog — Resident 009 Hattie is Budderlee’s village seamstress and quiltmaker, with a love for beautiful fabrics, tiny stitches, and an especially soft spot for buttons. A careful and patient maker, she believes the things we use every day can be both useful and beautiful. Hattie is a dear friend of Walter the Tailor, and the two can often be found working together at Walter’s Tailor Shop, mending clothing and helping keep their Budderlee neighbors warm and comfortable. When the work is finished, they share another favorite pastime—their quilting club, where fabric scraps, conversation, and friendship come together one stitch at a time. Whether she is piecing a quilt, repairing a treasured garment, or choosing exactly the right button, Hattie puts a little bit of herself into everything she makes.
